Angus MacPhail

Angus is from the Island of Tiree in the Inner Hebrides and co-founded Skipinnish with Andrew Stevenson. He began accordion lessons at age 9 under Gordon Connell's instruction.

His professional background includes studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS), work in commercial fishing, marine chartering, and the licensed trade. Music has remained central throughout his career.

Angus serves as the band's primary composer, having written or co-written all the original songs performed and recorded by Skipinnish. His songwriting gained recognition recently, earning him a nomination for "Composer of the Year" at the Scottish Traditional Music Awards in 2017.
